(런던 2020년 3월 17일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) 기술 선두주자를 위한 성장 플랫폼 Tech Nation이 오늘 발표한 연례 Tech Nation 보고서[https://technation.io/report2020/ ]에서 영국과 아시아의 기술 부문에 대한 결과를 공개했다.

중국, 두 번째로 큰 기술 국가

미국은 기술 투자 부문에서 올해도 세계 1위를 기록했다. 2019년 미국의 기술 업체들은 819억 파운드를 유치했다. 중국은 총 투자액 322억 파운드를 기록하면서 그 뒤를 바짝 쫓았다. 영국은 101억 파운드로 3위를 기록했다. 영국 기술 업체들에 대한 투자는 2018년보다 44% 증가했지만, 미국에서의 투자는 2018년보다 20% 감소했고, 중국에서의 투자는 65% 감소했다.

아시아 기업들, AI에 대한 VC 투자 측면에서 세계 2위 기록

아시아에서는 총 투자액 중 거의 절반(47%)인 155.6억 파운드가 AI 개발에 집중됐다.

2015~2019년 신기술에 대한 벤처자금 투자를 가장 많이 유치한 중국 도시는 베이징(100억 파운드)과 상하이(20억 파운드)다. 세계에서 신기술에 대한 벤처자금 투자가 가장 많은 도시는 샌프란시스코(160억 파운드)이며, 런던(40억 파운드)은 유럽에서 1위를 기록했다.

베이징(아시아 VC 투자 중 38%)과 상하이(9%)에 투자된 VC 자금은 AI 개발을 비롯해 로봇공학과 사이버 보안 부문에 집중됐다.

텔아비브 투자(6%)는 AI와 사이버 보안 부문에 집중됐고, 싱가포르(5%)는 AI와 블록체인으로 많이 집중됐다. 도쿄(3%)는 대부분 로봇공학에 투자했고, 서울(2%)은 AI와 블록체인에 투자했다. 호찌민시(2%)는 오직 블록체인 기술 개발을 위한 투자만 받았다.

영국과 아시아의 기술 협력

2019년 미국과 아시아 투자자들은 영국 기술 업체들을 대상으로 49억 파운드를 투자했으며, 이는 영국 기술에 대한 전체 투자액 중 45%에 해당한다.

2019년 영국 투자자들은 아시아에서 118건에 달하는 벤처자금 거래를 완료했다. Entrepreneur First는 24건을 완료하면서 영국의 단일 투자자로서는 최대 규모를 기록했다. 이 중 21건은 Hydroleaf와 같은 싱가포르 기업과 물을 모으고 정화하는 클린테크 사업에 집중됐다.

New Tech Nation Report Shows Asian Companies Second in the World for Emerging Technology Investment While London Is the Emerging Technology Hub of Europe

LONDON, March 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Tech Nation, the growth platform for technology leaders, reveals findings today on the UK and Asian tech sectors in its annual, Tech Nation Report [https://technation.io/report2020/ ].

China is second largest tech nation

The US continues to lead the world in tech investment for another year. In 2019, ￡81.9bn was raised by US tech companies. China closely follows for total investment at ￡32.2bn, and then the UK at ￡10.1bn. Investment into UK tech companies rose by 44% from 2018, however, investment dropped by 20% in the US from 2018, and in China investment dropped by 65%.

Asian companies second in the world for VC investment into AI

Almost half of the total investment in Asia at 47% was made towards AI development at ￡15.56bn.

The cities attracting the most venture capital investment in emerging technologies between 2015 - 2019, were Beijing (￡10bn) and Shanghai (￡2bn). San Francisco was the city attracting the most VC investment in these technologies globally (￡16bn), and London was the leading European city (￡4bn).

VC investment made into Beijing (38% of VC investment in Asia) and Shanghai (9%), was focussed towards AI development as well as robotics and cybersecurity.

Tel Aviv investment (6%) focussed on AI and cybersecurity, and Singapore (5%) heavily on AI and blockchain. Tokyo (3%) is mostly invested in robotics and Seoul (2%) in AI and blockchain. Ho Chi Minh City (2%) received investment only for blockchain technology development.

UK & Asian Tech Collaboration

￡4.9bn was invested into UK tech companies by US and Asian investors in 2019, accounting for 45% of all investment made into UK tech.

In 2019, 118 Venture Capital deals were completed in Asia by UK investors. Entrepreneur First was the largest single UK investor with 24 deals, 21 of those being in Singapore with companies such as Hydroleaf, and cleantech business which collects and purifies water.
